The Secrets of Scaling Through Your Final Year Successfully.
…through the pain, smile, laugh, and rejoice
The truth is, you can’t be a child twice; a youth twice, and young twice. So, what are you going to do with each season of your life? I have come to the season of my life where I fully entered into adulthood. As a final year student at Redeemer’s University, Nigeria, studying Estate Management, I have come to realize that the seasons of your life are irreversible.
I am going to share with you the things I wish I knew before I entered into my final year. Follow me, because you wouldn’t want to miss the secrets of scaling through your final year successfully.
The first thing I want you to know is, God is your greatest helper. Don’t place Him in the middle; make God a priority in your life. God is a King—never have that mindset that God should come down to meet you. You have to go and meet God.
So, here’s secret number one: GET GOD ALONG WITH YOU ON TIME, THE ONLY COVERING IS JESUS.
The second thing is, don’t complain through each season learn to rejoice in every circumstance. In my final year, I had to learn to dance through the pain, smile, laugh, and rejoice. It was never easy at first. The easiest thing to do was, perhaps, sulk in the pain and be sad all day, or complain and cry that God isn’t faithful. But no. I had to learn to always rejoice and give thanks. Each time I was faced with a battle and it was fierce, I’d put on my mini boombox and play praise songs and dance with all my might, and I’m telling you, I’d suddenly feel so overwhelmed with gratitude, peace, and assurance that God has the final say and He is with me.
So, here’s secret number two: GET COMPLAINING OUT OF YOUR VOCABULARY AND GET GRATITUDE & JOY IN.
The third thing, which I would expatiate on in my next letter is this: it matters who you call your friends. Your friend can either make you or mar you. If possible, have a friendship test sheet to tick the qualities you want in a friend before bringing that person into your space. There are different kinds of relationships that don’t necessarily have to be called a friendship, because a friend holds so much weight in your life and can throw you off balance too quickly if they offend you.
So don’t just meet someone, and all of a sudden they know everything about you. No. Organize your social relationships strategically. Have a circle that consists of levels of closeness and intimacy. The inner circle consists of close, trusted friends, while the outer circle includes acquaintances and friends with whom you have fewer deep connections.
And also, remember not all friendships are meant to last forever. Some are for a season, and they come to an end. You must understand that it’s absolutely fine.
So, here’s secret number three: MAKE FRIENDS THAT ALIGN WITH YOUR GOALS.
The final thing I’ll be sharing with you today is this: have financial intelligence. This is very important as it will help you not just now but for the future. Save one-tenth of your income or allowance and don’t touch it. Delayed gratification is the game. Avoid impulsive spending.
And how do you do that? Let’s say you want ice cream and it’s your last naira in your account. What you should do is write it down and sleep on it. After tomorrow, you’d realize you never needed ice cream, it was just a craving.
So here’s the thing: study your customed habits of living (what do I spend on in a day?). Don’t confuse your necessary expenses with your desires. Every amount of money you spend must give you 100% appreciated value.
This is how you section your money: write down what you desire to spend your money on, select those that are necessary and others that are possible through your savings. Then cross out the desires, and budget your necessary expenses.
So, here’s secret number four: BE INTENTIONAL WITH EVERY NAIRA. DON’T LET FREE MONEY OR SPARE CHANGE PUSH YOU INTO IMPULSIVE SPENDING.
I believe you have learnt something new today from my journey as a final year student. But this is where my letter ends.
It’s always so exciting and pleasing to write to you. Keep being a star!
With love,
Rejiwritess.
xx.
