Hi all! If I could jump into a time machine right now and deliver this letter to my younger self about love, what do you think would be in it?
Don't fret! I'm about to let you have a peek into my letter.
Yesterday, after a long day I sat down to watch Mazino Malaka's YouTube video: What I Wish I Knew About Love, and she encouraged us to write a letter about love to our younger selves.
Somehow, I hope you learn from this letter, because this is an honest one, I wish someone told me:
Dear Younger self,
You remember how mum and dad always said to stay away from boys that they'd get you pregnant, they weren't exaggerating they just wanted the best for you, not saying you are pregnant now or anything, I'm just telling you dating someone at thirteen, fourteen, fifteen isn't the wisest.
Yes, it's okay to admire or to have a crush on someone which makes you human, but leave it at that.
I know how much you're dying to jump into love, how you're dying for someone to love you... mostly because you don't love yourself or think anyone does, and this has made you believe the Wattpad romance books, and teenage romance movies are your future.
Sweet one, I must tell you, get out of your head! Love isn't what you think it is, love isn't about those infatuations that you're feeling for that boy, anyone telling you to give him your body doesn't love you, only desires something from you, he doesn't even understand what love is too, he just wants to use you to satisfy his desires.
Don't say yes to a relationship you know nothing about; because of the pressure to be in one, because you see most of your mates are already in a relationship. I promise you; they don't know what they are doing.
I know my words are piercing and fierce, but take it from me who knows you more than any other person.
Let me define what love is, take a look at your parents no matter how much you've done wrong they still love you effortlessly, they'd go the extra mile for you, and they'd jump into the fire if you were there and save you, that boy can't do that.
That boy, telling you 'I like you and I want you to be my girl' doesn't have anything to offer you. I know you've never heard someone tell you the I like you word and you've never really thought you could be seen as pretty in a man's eyes. But I must tell you, you are beautiful. the most beautiful girl in the world. Your skin is radiant, your eyes are so adorable, and my gosh! those dimples! They get me every time-
So, my love, let me tell you what lies in love. So, you'll know love when you see it.
God is love. Let me pause and explain it to you.
God so loved the world that He GAVE His ONLY begotten son to die for your sins, what manner of love is that?
God could have given His angels to die for our sins, but no He gave the most precious being to die for you.
Love Gives. Love cares more for others than for self. Love doesn't want what it doesn't have. Love is content. Love isn't always "me first" Love doesn't keep score of the sins of others. Love takes pleasure in the flowering of truth. Love trust God always. Love isn't boastful. Love is sacrificial. Love tells you the truth even if it hurts.
My dearest, I want you to know that you're loved, by God and your beautiful family. I want you to ask God to teach you how to love and also how to love yourself.
Because scripture tells us 'Love your neighbor as you love yourself' how do you want to love others when you haven't loved yourself enough or seen that God loves you?
just take time today to ask God to teach you how to love yourself and see how God loves you. I love you, my girl! Keep shining!
Love You,
Love Me.
If you enjoyed reading this let me know in the comment section what you would tell your younger self about love.
I leave you with this,
I wish you well and the very best!!
See you soon!!
